I’m just back from camping and refreshed with a sense of awe at the magnificence of nature. It appears as though God has this amazing multimedia brush that he simply swipes across the canvas and before our eyes, around every corner there is a beautiful landscape. The image above is just one small section of a majestic pine among hundreds of thousands in Bon Echo Provincial Park, Ontario.
It didn’t start out this way. Initially small and feeble, bending and reaching to obtain enough sunlight to survive., it stretched out a solid root base to secure its place and to draw essential nutrients for growth. Fighting for adequate space in the forest canopy took time . The process resulted in changes in the outer appearance as the tree developed this thick bark marked by cracks and crevices that, in the right light, highlighted reddish-orange surfaces. As the sun illuminated this beauty, I stood in awe… hence the photo… lol
People are no different really. All people are created with unique and amazing qualities often only seen in the “right light”. The “right light” may quite simply be our attitude. As we strive to meet our needs and survive in what can often feel like a constant battle, we too develop cracks and hardened exteriors which say a lot about our journey. Laying down a strong foundation, rooted in core beliefs and values can support our efforts to achieve a satisfying and fulfilled life. The roots we lay down keep us standing firm in times of trouble, when (not if) the storms of life come our way.
