As we get older, the order of things and the rules which we live by become far more complicated and we can be reasonably certain that others live by similar rules.  When we drive in traffic, we are able to accomplish this task only because we are fairly certain that others driving on the same road will obey the same rules of the road as we do. It is this certainty that allows us to function in life.

Imagine how difficult it would be to drive if others on the road decided the rules didn’t apply to them – if they drove where they wanted, when they wanted, and how they wanted.  How fearful would you be sitting behind the wheel of a car?

Uncertainty is what happens when we are constantly exposed to situations where the “rules” aren’t followed.  I’m sure you can come up with many daily situations: accidents, sudden deaths, rule breaking, affairs, lies, companies that misuse their employee’s goodwill.  Perhaps even more traumatic events such as teenagers being shot or little children harmed.

We each have a unique level of tolerance for uncertainty.  It is when we become intolerant of uncertainty that we sometimes need the help of a professional therapist to increase our tolerance,  increase our certainty – or both.

The professional therapists at Jeff Packer MSW and Associates Inc. are experts in the methodologies and therapy designed to increase your tolerance or your certainty.
